just wondering if anyone does this, and if so, does this mean you do not need to clamp all the boards together during build? What dovetail bits/ jigs do you like, and how do you supplement the strength, ie, finishing nails or wood screws? thanks!

Dovetail joints lock together tightly, but you still have to clamp them while the epoxy cures.

You don't need any screws or nails when you have such a great amount of gluing surface area. If you put some braces inside the box for reinforcement, you can use a finish air nailer to keep the braces in place until the glue cures.

We use a 12x5 foot CNC mill to cut our dovetails, so it is not something that the average woodworker would buy for home use.

Leigh Industries makes an inexpensive home unit called the D4 that is always spoken about fondly at woodworker shows. You could not go wrong with this:

Good luck with your build!

Wow it's been a while since these posts were put up. My scope was completed in 6 months, a 16" F 4.5. But now I want something larger, just for kicks I guess. I still love viewing through the 16" but the atm bug is nasty indeed.
