Hello.

I am going to be moving soon and will have to leave my beloved observatory (see it: www.sgmsys.com). I have 2 regrets with this structure. 1. I can't take it with me! 2. When I made the tracks, I should have used a system similar to that on a roller-coaster where the rollers are positively engaged in the top AND bottom of the track. If I had gone with #2, I would have used a rack & pinion type drive system and would have no fear of leaving the roof unlocked while away from the house.

Does anyone have plans / ideas for something a little smaller. Something that can be disassembled and moved? The only one I know of is the skyshed (see it: http://skyshed.com/).

Any thoughts on the type of dome/roof? I was thinking of a clam type dome. Does anyone have any experience with the clam? How water / wind resistant is it? Reason for the clam is that both sides can be lowered and would have a clear 360 deg view of the sky.

I would be interested in your thoughts / opinions.

Thanks for your time!

V/r,
-Scott
