If you need to add Counterweights to your scope (maybe you have added a heavy filter slide or camera), but you want the scope to still look "stock", it is easy to do. Replace the machine screws on the side of the Mirror Box with the Logo Plate with longer ones. Make sure you get ones made of Stainless Steel. Using Steel or Lead bar stock (1" wide for scopes 28" and under, 1.5" wide for scopes 30" and over) cut some lengths. Make a few more than you think you will need for future use. Drill matching holes to line up with the existing machine screws. Make sure you use LocTite or Lock Washers so the plates do not come loose in transit. Or you can use stainless steel Wing Nuts. They will allow you to change out your counterweights without using any tools.

When asking for bar stock, you order by dimensions, so you might ask for: 1" by 3/8" steel flat stock, 19" long. Unless you have a water cooled band saw (or an abrasive chop saw), let the supplier do the cutting for you (most charge 50 cents per cut), you will most likely have to drill your own holes. |
