Here we have another installment in the new Owner's manual - Primary Mirror Installation.

1. Leave the protective cover on the mirror! Don't even think of removing it until the mirror is installed.

2. Remove the truss poles and make sure the Mirrorbox is aiming straight up at 90 degrees.

3. Move the 3 Keepers out of the way so the mirror can be smoothly set into place.

4. Carefully lower the mirror onto the cell triangles. Note where the braces are in the Mirrorbox and avoid scrapping your knuckles on them.

5. Note where the Velcro is on the mirror edge, and make sure it ends up towards the front of the Mirrorbox (the 6 O-clock position).

8. Push the mirror towards the top (Logo side) of the Mirror box if the Cable Sling needs more slack.

9. Put the mating piece of Velcro over the Cable Sling to hold it in place.

Chances are you will only have one pair of Velcro pads, but larger mirrors could have several like shown in this picture.

You can carefully place a freshly laundered towel over the face of the mirror as a method of protection should you drop a wrench during the following steps:

11. Carefully rotate the Keepers (Retention Pins) over the face of the mirror.

12. Adjust the nut below the Keepers so that there is a distance of 1/8" (3mm) between the face of the mirror and the bottom of the Keeper.

13. Note that the lower (4 O'clock and 7 O'clock) Retention posts are bored off-center. Rotate the posts leaving a 2mm gap between the Cable Sling and the posts.

None of the posts should be in contact with the mirror or the sling. The posts are used as a safely device should the scope flip over, or the Cable Sling become un-secured.

14. Gently snug the Keeper bolt nuts with a 9/16" wrench (14mm).

15. After the first time collimating the telescope, check to make sure that the mirror face is not in contact with the Keepers.
