I managed to damage my 14.5" D14 by doing something that was dumb, but I sure didn't see it coming.

After several days/nights camped and set up in the same gorgeous dark-sky place it was time to pack up. I thoughtlessly put the wheelbarrow handles on backwards . . . the holes are the same distance apart so it shouldn't matter, right? Wrong. When I lifted up the handles and started to roll forward the mirror box tipped, its leading edge was grabbed by the tread on the wheels and yanked beyond its usual travel range. This resulted in tearing out the cable to the alt encoder, damaging the connector.

To ensure this doesn't happen again I followed Eric's suggestion, and labeled the handles "TR" (top right) and "TL."

Happy ending? I think so. Eric supplied me with a new connector at the end of enough wire that I could splice it inside the mirror box, making an invisible repair. While I haven't had a chance to try it out yet it should be fine. I'm headed to OSP (by way of a side trip to southern Oregon) tomorrow morning, so I sure hope it works!

As the old expression goes, "Do what I say, not what I do." [:fingerwagginggraemlin:]

Mike,

I'd like to meet up with you at OSP and take a look at your scope. I've been talking with Eric about a 24" but I'd like to take a look at one of their scopes first.

Are you planning to meet other CN people at the Sunriver booth on Friday? We might try to connect there or since my kids and I will be there from Monday on, maybe I'll can track you down before that.

Any idea where you might be camping at OSP?

Regards,
Steve Weiler

Mike,

It was nice to meet you at OSP and thanks for showing me your 14.5" scope.
